Here’s my pop Hoyt Axton playing “Jealous Man” on a TV show in 1981. This song appeared on his 1976 album ‘Fearless’ along with “Evangelina”, “Gypsy Moth”, “Flash of Fire”, & “An Old Greyhound”. This song appeared as the first track on & single from his 1973 album ‘Less Than A Song’ and then later, on his 1977 compilation album ‘Road Songs.’ It didn’t chart, but it is still one of his better known songs. “Sweet Misery” was covered by John Denver in 1973 and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas in 1974, both very different but great versions of this ‘lil Hoyt tune. Here’s a video of my dad Hoyt Axton playing “Evangelina” in the 1980’s. “Evangelina” is one of his better known songs, thanks in part to Colter Wall who covered it as a single on his 2023 album ‘Little Songs.’ My dad originally released the song in 1976 on his album ‘Fearless’ but it didn’t chart until he recorded & released it again in 1979 on the album ‘A Rusty Old Halo’ & it got to #37 on the US County charts.
